On Saturday, more than 15,000 youth attended the first day of the book market at the Institute of Technology, which was held as part of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport's National Reading Day.

Every year, March 11 is National Reading Day. This year's theme is "Reading is the foundation of all in life" as part of efforts to promote book reading and writing in Cambodia.

According to Hok Sothik, director of Sipar and a member of the National Reading Day Book Fair Organising Committee, the first day of the book fair drew more than 15,000 people, and the number is expected to grow to more than 60,000 in three days.

He went on to say, "The large number of young people who participated demonstrates the success of the National Reading Day celebration." The Ministry has organised various national competitions for kids and adults in reading, writing, poetry recitation, and debate.

Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport, who opened the book fair, stated that the National Reading Day promotes learning and Khmer literacy in Cambodia. He went on to say that the Ministry has established a number of initiatives to promote Khmer reading and writing, including the implementation of innovative Khmer language teaching methods, the selection of qualified instructors, and the formation of National Reading Day.

He stated that these courses encourage kids to write while also allowing for the transmission of knowledge from prior generations to the next generation in order to conserve and promote the national language.

He stated that the government's mandate for school reform includes strong instructors, good principals, good schools, and decent libraries with adequate books for kids to read. Another crucial element is that pupils must be prepared to attend school.

The three-day book festival will conclude today.
